1984:AGAIN at Vancouver Fringe Festival

Theatre Terrific, Canada's longest-running inclusive theatre company, is proud to mark its 40th anniversary with the world premiere of 1984:AGAIN, an eerie, thought-provoking devised adaptation of George Orwell’s classic novel.
Presented at Granville Island’s Picnic Pavilion as part of the 2026 Vancouver Fringe Festival, this gripping production follows Winston Smith as he commits the ultimate crime in a total surveillance state: falling in love. His forbidden relationship with Julia becomes a radical act of defiance against the Ministry of Truth.
Drawing terrifying parallels to modern-day surveillance, political disinformation, and algorithmic control, 1984:AGAIN asks a central question: Can genuine human connection give us the collective courage to stand together and rebel?
Words from the Director & Cast
"Experiencing this story through the perspective of people with mixed abilities heightens the sense of disorientation, of being gaslit, and having one's own senses questioned. Orwell initially wrote this story as a warning, and as time moves further past 1984, his warning only becomes more urgent and real."
— Kevin Jesuino, Director & Artistic Director of Theatre Terrific
"It’s got issues of fascism, populism, indoctrination, and the sort of contaminating of the truth that is very all too relevant to today."
— Emily Brook, playing Julia/Eileen
