Theatre Creation
Build Original Theatre From the Ground Up
Theatre Creation is Theatre Terrific's signature approach to making performance. For 40 years and over 35 productions, we've developed a rigorous, collaborative process where diverse artists transform ideas into live theatre. This is where you learn the practical skills to create original work - from first impulse to opening night.

Theatre Creation is the practice of building theatre collaboratively from scratch. You won't be handed a script or told what to perform. Instead, you'll learn the essential tools of devising: generating material from personal experience, shaping ideas into compelling narratives, and working with an ensemble to bring those stories to the stage.
Led by professional theatre-makers, our workshops provide a hands-on laboratory for exploring diverse devising methods - improvisation, structured games, text-based development, and physical theatre techniques. This work is demanding and rewards your commitment with genuine artistic growth.

From Workshop to Stage
Theatre Creation is both skill development and a pathway into professional performance. Upon completing a workshop, you're invited to audition for our summer rehearsal process and performances at the Vancouver International Fringe Theatre Festival and Heart of the City Festival.
This opportunity is optional. Many participants take Theatre Creation for the joy of learning and creating. Others use it as a stepping stone into our professional productions. Both paths are equally valid.

Led by professional instructors, you will explore diverse devising methods to build original scripts, develop staging, and create theatre that directly engages with the world today. This class focuses on the essential skills of collective storytelling, script development, and ensemble dynamics.
By the end of the course, you will have sharpened your artistic voice and gained the technical confidence to step into a live performance that you helped build.
