Susanna Uchatius, Artistic Director

Susanna Uchatius (Artistic Director) has worked for 25 years in the many facets of theatre (acting, directing, writing, teaching). She has a BFA in theatre from Simon Fraser University, has further training at The Banff Centre for the Arts, the National Voice Intensive at UBC, Siti Theatre NY and also with numerous prominent local and foreign theatre artists. Her passion lies in creating collaborative theatre production with a diverse, inclusive ensemble. To that end she has worked with youth in prison, local community groups, various social agencies for developmentally, physically and/or mental health concerns, public schools, and local theatre companies.

She strives above all to validate the voice of the emerging challenged artist, and to break the boundaries that segregate artists according to their mental, developmental and/or physical challenges with the goal of bringing together artists who normally would never have the opportunity to know, work and create together. The result is profound theatre presentation that addresses universal human issues from a highly unusual prismatic perception.

She has been with Theatre Terrific since 2001, first directing Return to Sender by Heidi Janz. She has been Artistic Director since 2004 and has written, directed and produced numerous works for Theatre Terrific for the Vancouver Fringe Festival. Professionally she wrote and directed Naked Oranges, doGs, The Glass Box (a collaboration) and The Secret Son for the company. These were presented at Performance Works, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, The Carnegie Centre,The World Urban Festival, Playwrights Theatre Centre and The Roundhouse.
