The way we move our bodies says a lot. Physicality is a wonderful tool of expression and communication. As a performer, it is important to understand our bodies. This class will work on listening to our bodies and learning how to use them as an extension of ourselves and our thoughts.

Communication is a two-way street. Performance involves listening and awareness. We will focus on the group as much as the individuals emphasizing the abilities of the group as a whole. Making the rest of the group look good will make you look good!

Come together. Increasing spacial awareness, self-awareness and group awareness through exercises that draw from sources which include viewpoints, improv and dance. Let’s get physical! The group will create short scenes and dances on a regular basis. And hopefully, without knowing it, we’ll get a bit of a cardio workout as well! Challenge yourself to move, to express to communicate.

Bring your workout clothes.
Bring an open mind.
Bring your impulses.
Bring a water bottle.
Bring it!

Two ways to register:

#1 – Call the Theatre Terrific office at 604-222-4020 Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm

#2 – Email Theatre Terrific’s Executive Director James Coomber at [email protected]

Causing a comMOTION - Movement Class

MOTION - comMOTION, locoMOTION, eMOTION...

The way we move our bodies says a lot.

So you think you can’t dance?

Dance can be a scary word. For some it is strict and serious, for others it is free and frivolous. It can be entertaining, embarrassing, graceful or goofy.  It is a way for us to communicate through our bodies. Dance is a way of connecting to our bodies, and being able to access that, as an actor, is of the utmost importance!

No training - No problem!

Let music and movement set you free! Use your body to express yourself on stage. This class will explore how our own bodies move as well as how the group moves. We will move to music as well as to the beat of our own individual drums.  There will be free-style as well as choreography. We will explore the importance and practicality of using our bodies in performances of all kinds.

Express yourself physically.

Break through preconceived notions of what dance should or shouldn’t be, what it is or isn’t.

More than just dance.

Get moving! Get inspired!

Get your booty on the floor tonight!

Audition Notice

THEATRE TERRIFIC IS SEEKING THREE ACTORS

Theatre Terrific will be beginning work on the production of I Love Mondays, by award-winning Canadian playwright Pamela Boyd.

Synopsis

Friends can come from the most unlikely places. Peggy has been a mother, a wife and a painter. Recently divorced, back at school, sleeping on a friends couch and in desperate need of money, she takes a job supporting George, a developmentally challenged man. Introduced, Peggy and George explore part-time jobs, mall food courts, learn self-truths, negotiate the rude assumptions of established society and despite strikingly different life experiences, bond in a remarkable enduring friendship.

This play will be mounted in November 2013. We are seeking three actors for the workshop process. There are two major characters and others. The leading male character is a unique, imaginative middle-aged man who lives with developmental challenges. Theatre Terrific seeks to cast this role true to script and therefore seeks a middle-aged man who suits the role. The workshop process will run from Feb 4th to 15th, Monday to Friday, 10am until 2pm.

For the workshop we seek:

A middle-aged man/actor with a developmental challenge (35 to 60)

A middle-aged woman/actress with no labeled challenge (40 to 60)

An actor, either male or female (30 to 60)

WE WELCOME ALL INTERESTED AGE-APPROPRIATE ACTORS…experienced and inexperienced.

Enthusiasm, respect and courage are necessary.

If you do have a resume, please bring it along.

If you do not have a resume, bring yourself.

We welcome one and all to come for an open workshop audition.

Date: Sunday, January 20th or Monday, January 21st

Time:  7pm to 9pm

Place:  Vancouver Japanese United Church at 23rd and Victoria
