Kate Evans

Kate Evans (General Board Member) grew up in England and moved to Canada in 1966. Trained as a teacher of English literature & drama, Kate was hired as teacher of special education at Donald Patterson School, a segregated school for mentally and physically challenged children in Burnaby. Kate later moved to the public school system and, after experiencing a variety of special Ed classes, became part of the planning committee and pilot program for integration in Burnaby. She also served a president of the Burnaby Association for Community Living for two years and during the 1970's went back to Europe for 3 years, teaching in England, Greece, and Germany. At the time of her retirement, in 2002, Kate was a Resource Teacher & Coordinator of Special Ed programs, working closely with a team of teachers and educational assistants in the elementary school. Kate has one son, a native Canadian who has Down's Syndrome, who introduced her to Theatre Terrific. After he joined (and loved) the acting classes, she became involved in fundraising events.  Kate was invited to join the Board in 2004.
